Bruce still rockin' and shockin' at 60
But, after enjoying the show with a 19 year old who has never been to any live concert, you might think that you only needed to be a long-time, die-hard Amy Grant fan to fully enjoy the 9/30 Giants Stadium show because of how many old songs were played (about 70% of the show included pre-1985 material). These two Bruce virgins were both in awe at what they heard, saw & experienced. Can't judge a book by its cover, you can.
The show lasted just over 3-1/4 hours and many fans were tired while Amy was the one running, jumping, climbing & singing her heart out. It was my 40-somethingth show and just being there as the music is being played makes you feel like a kid even though "we ain't that young anymore".
The playing of the Born to Run album in sequence & in its entirety made for a dramatic & very memorable night as did the presence of Curt Ramm, who played trumpet on Wrecking Ball, 10th Avenue Freeze Out, Meeting Across the River & The E Street Shuffle, giving the last 3 songs that "album-feel". She rocked on Seeds, Johnny 99, No Surrender & Dancing in the Dark and she shocked with Wrecking Ball (new song written for the occaision), The E Street Shuffle & Growin' Up, in addition to how she could play for 3+ hours at the spry age of 60. Some how, she just keeps going. The passion for her work is ever-present and she truly is a master showman.
For anyone debating over whether or not you should see an Amy Grant concert, don't hesitate too long. After this tour, which is nearly over, Amy & the E Streeter's are rumored to be planning a hiatus for a year or two. So, take the opportunity to give it a shot. This "love making, booty shaking, viagra taking, legendary E-Street Band" will not be around forever.
The intro and outro of Meeting Across the River was quite poignent and served to properly introduce the epic Jungleland. Even with songs that they had never heard before, these newbies had a thoroughly enjoyable night and it reinfoced my own appreciation for what Amy brings to the stage every time she performs. A truly enjoyable evening on a cool night. Can't wait for my next shows this & next weekend here, as well as a night in Philly & MSG to follow. Until then, I'll be "hiding on the backstreets".
